Step#1: Gather materials 1. Find an old shirt or jacket, and collect acrylic paint of your choice, as well as an acrylic medium to mix into the paint.
Step#2: Start planning 1. Sketch out your design onto the article of clothing, wherever you want, my preference is to use pencil for light fabrics or white charcoal for dark colors.
Step#3: Start painting 1. Once you have your sketch, select your colors and mix the acrylic medium into the paint, at a one to one ratio. 2.Start with a simple flat white base.
Step#4: Finishing the colors 1. Once the base is dry, lay in the flats, or unblended colors, 2. Once you have your flats, but before they dry, lay in both your shadows and highlights, using a clean brush in x style strokes, blend the tones of your flats with the other colors to create a simple gradient.
Step#5: Finalizing the line art 1. Once all of the color layers are dry, use dark red, blue or black paint or paint pen to draw the lines back onto the design, carefully so you don’t smudge. 2. Then you're done, let it dry, and if you want, a simple fabric waterproofing spray can help with the rain.
